*The story goes that Benjamin Franklin was emerging from a constitutional convention in Philadelphia in 1787 when a woman yelled to him, “Well Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?”
“A Republic, madam, if you can keep it,” Franklin famously answered. In his talk, “A democracy if you can keep it,” Mr. Rapoport will explore what we must do keep the Republic.
The cost for the dinner is $45

The League of Women Voters of Greater Hartford(LWVGH) recently held an informal gathering for elected officials in the Greater Hartford area. Representatives from Bloomfield, Hartford, and West Hartford attended along with members and friends of the League. The reception offers both League members and elected officials an opportunity to be introduced to each other. It also provides a rare opportunity for officials from different towns to meet each other and hear about issues in neighboring communities.
